Blog to Restore Sanity

Jon Stewart hosted the Rally to Restore Sanity today. I would have given anything to be there, but unfortunately could not attend. Which was in my opinion put on spectacularly well, from the music and flow of the rally, to the undeniably brilliant message. I did not believe it to really be a parody of Glenn Beck's rally.

As I sit here at this very moment, there are absolute straight fucking lunatics on Fox fucking News who are saying as I write this, that the rally had absolutely no message, and I sadly quote: "that the crowd was just a bunch of hippies who tomorrow morning are gonna wake up, take last night's leftover drugs while real Americans go their jobs and think absolutely nothing about the utter stupidity that this rally promoted." I'm sorry Fox News, I guess tomorrow I have to wake up and take my drugs, and that on tuesday although I am a registered voter, I may as well not go vote because I am not a real American.

One small point that I would like to bring up that you have clearly ignored, that this rally and Beck's rally were both supposedly not political rallies. I agree that they were both not outwardly political but did have huge political undertones. Fox News is by far the most watched news station in the country. Where as per night Jon Stewart bring in millions and millions less people than your supposed news shows bring in. Glenn Beck managed to pull about 78000 people to his rally. Stewart got in excess of 200000. So you decide which personality speaks to more people.

Quick side note on why I wish Glenn Beck would just stop doing anything on television anymore. I witnessed with my eyes, not under the influence of LSD, Beck take the slogan that Obama used on the campaign trail of "YES WE CAN." After looking at this Glenn said that back on some old Nazi literature on the very back page, the same three words were printed. Glenn went on further to say that this meant that anyone who used this slogan along with Obama was a Nazi. So I guess what Glenn Beck is implying is this. Birds fly south for the winter, sometimes my grandparents go to Florida during the winter. Therefore, my grandparents are birds.

The show was put on by comedians yes. But to me comedy does not make a message any less viable. All comedy is, is a vehicle for bringing the absurdities of our everyday life to the surface, and say "Hey look at this!" I would argue that good comedy/and parody sends a better message than so called "rational arguments" do every time it is delivered. Think for yourself, do you recall your favorite comics routines, or a political leaders speeches more readily. Using parody as a means to make a point, if done well, often makes such poignant observations on everyday life that so often falls by the way side of people who believe whatever they are told, and allow themselves to stop thinking.

At the end of the rally, Jon Stewart gave a fantastic speech about what he believed the rally was about. So that tomorrow everyone can over react to everything he said, and implicitly state that his intentions for his own rally are wrong and that's not why he really had it. ANYWAY....(I will be quoting a lot of it in this next part so yeah. If that's a problem, fuck off, I'm surprised you made it this far anyway if you even bothered to read this bullshit. Lord knows I wouldn't waste my time.)

Stewart started by saying, "So, uh, what exactly was this? I can’t control what people think this was. I can only tell you my intentions. This was not a rally to ridicule people of faith or people of activism or to look down our noses at the heartland or passionate argument or to suggest that times are not difficult and that we have nothing to fear. They are and we do. But we live now in hard times, not end times. And we can have animus and not be enemies. But unfortunately, one of the main tools in delineating the two broke. The country’s 24-hour politico-pundit-perpetual-conflictinator did not cause our problems, but its existence makes solving them that much harder. The press can hold its magnifying glass up to our problems, bringing them into focus, illuminating issues heretofore unseen, or they can use that magnifying glass to light ants on fire and then perhaps host a week of shows on the sudden, unexpected flaming ant epidemic. If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."

This was in my opinion, the best point made in his entire speech. 24 hour news networks, be it Fox, CNN, or whomever, all they do is take one thing that the side they are not blatantly for totally over react to it. This constant blowing out of proportion of everything, makes it impossible to see what is really happening in this country, and therefore also impossible to ever see the real issues and tackle them.

Stewart went on to say; "The press is our immune system. If it overreacts to everything, we actually get sicker and perhaps eczema. And yet with that being said, I feel good. Strangely, calmly good, because the image of Americans that is reflected back to us by our political and media process is false. It is us through a fun-house mirror — and not the good kind that makes you look slim in the waist and maybe taller, but the kind where you have a giant forehead and an ass shaped like a month-old pumpkin and one eyeball. So why would we work together? Why would you reach across the aisle to a pumpkin-assed forehead eyeball monster? If the picture of us were true, of course our inability to solve problems would actually be quite sane and reasonable: Why would you work with Marxists actively subverting our Constitution and racists and homophones who see no one’s humanity but their own? We hear every damn day about how fragile our country is, on the brink of catastrophe, torn by polarizing hate, and how it’s a shame that we can’t work together to get things done, but the truth is we do. We work together to get things done every damn day. The only place we don’t is here (Washington D.C) or on cable TV. But Americans don’t live here or on cable TV. Where we live, our values and principles form the foundation that sustains while we get things done, not the barriers that prevent us from getting things done. Most Americans don’t live their lives solely as Democrats, Republicans, liberals, or conservatives. Americans live their lives more as people that are just a little bit late for something they have to do, often something they do not want to do. But they do it, impossible things every day that are only made possible through the little, reasonable compromises we all make"

This really drove the point home of what they were trying say. That the news networks and politicians of this country are always implicitly stating that we are a disjointed people who are unwilling to work together and full of hate and discord. When in reality this cannot be further from the truth. People make compromises and work together all the time to get things done. While the idiots in Washington are unwilling to compromise, and new networks blow this unwillingness to compromise out of proportion, thereby making it even more impossible to get anything done ever. And just for the fuck of it, here's the remainder of the speech.

"Look, look on the screen. This is where we are, this is who we are. These cars. That’s a schoolteacher who probably thinks his taxes are too high, he’s going to work. There’s another car, a woman with two small kids can’t really think about anything else right now. There’s another car, swinging — I don’t even know if you can see it — the lady’s in the NRA and loves Oprah. There’s another car, an investment banker, gay, also likes Oprah. Another car’s a Latino carpenter. Another car a fundamentalist vacuum salesman. Atheist obstetrician. Mormon Jay-Z fan. But this is us. Every one of the cars that you see is filled with individuals of strong belief and principles they hold dear, often principles and beliefs in direct opposition to their fellow travelers. And yet these millions of cars must somehow find a way to squeeze one by one into a mile-long, 30-foot wide tunnel carved underneath the mighty river, carved by people, who I’m sure, by the way, had their differences. And they do it, concession by concession. You go, then I’ll go. You go, then I’ll go. You go, then I’ll go. Oh my God, is that an NRA sticker on your car? Is that an Obama sticker on your car? Uh, well, that’s OK. You go and then I’ll go. And sure, at some point there will be a selfish jerk who zips up the shoulder and cuts in at the last minute, but that individual is rare and he is scorned and not hired as an analyst. Because we know instinctively as a people that if we are to get through the darkness and back into the light, we have to work together. And the truth is there will always be darkness, and sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t the Promised Land. Sometimes it’s just New Jersey. But we do it anyway, together. If you want to know why I’m here and what I want from you, I can only assure you this: You have already given it to me. Your presence was what I wanted. Sanity will always be and has always been in the eye of the beholder. To see you here today and the kind of people that you are has restored mine. Thank you."

At this point I am about out of things to say. I think Stewart said everything I would have said. If you actually made it this far, and at this point, I'm sure you haven't I can pretty much say anything that I want to. YOUR UGLY! See? It doesn't matter, cause no one reads this shit anyway.

I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaack

I know I have not posted anything on here in awhile. I basically ran out of funny things to say. In the coming month or two I still won't have anything funny to say.

But there has been so many fucked up things happening in this world lately, that if I don't get some of it out soon my fucking head is gonna explode.

Tune in for updates if you care (don't kid yourself you don't give a fuck what I have to say, I get it.)

HEY! THAT'S SARCASM! THAT'S WHY IT'S FUNNY!

A woman went to her doctor for a follow-up after he had prescribed testosterone for her. She was a little worried about some of the side effects she was experiencing.

"Doctor, the hormones you've been giving me have really helped, but I'm afraid that you're giving me too much,"she said: “I've started growing hair in places that I've never grown hair before."

"A little hair growth is a perfectly normal side effect of testosterone,” the doctor reassured her: "Just where has this hair appeared?"

"On my testicles."

A man walked up to a farmer's house and knocked on the door. When a woman opened the door, the man asked if she knew how to have sex. Not amused, she slammed the door. Again, the man knocked, and again asked the same question. Again, not amused, she screamed: "Get the hell away!”

Later, she told her husband of the incident. He said he would stay home the following day just in case. Sure enough, the next day the same man returned. The husband hid with his gun while the lady answered the door. When she was asked again if she knew how to have sex, she said: "Yes."

The man replied: "Great! Give some to your husband the next time you see him, and tell him to stay the hell away from my wife!"

What's the difference between your new wife and your new dog?

After a year the dog is still happy to see you.

Brenda, pregnant with her first child, was paying a visit to her obstetrician's office. When the exam was over, she shyly began: "My husband wants me to ask you..."

"I know, I know," the doctor interrupted, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder: "I get asked that all the time. Sex is fine until late in your pregnancy."

"No, that's not it at all," Brenda confessed: "He wants to know if I can still shovel the driveway."

God is worn out, so he tells St. Peter: "You know, I need a vacation. Got any suggestions about where I might go?"

St. Peter thinks, and then says: "How about Jupiter? It's nice this time of year."

God says: "No, too much gravity on Jupiter. It hurts my back."

St. Peter says: "OK, how about Mercury?"

God says: "No way! It's way too hot for me on Mercury."

St. Peter exclaims: "I know! How about going to Earth for your vacation?"

God says: "Are you kidding? I went there 2,000 years ago, had an affair with some Jewish girl, and they're still talking about it!"

Do you think maybe you could build a road there so I could drive?" The genie replied "Do you know how long that would take? How would I get beams to the bottom of the ocean? Imagine the amount of concrete! Impossible. Try again." The man was again deep in thought when finally he said. Well then I guess I would like to know what women are thinking. A Question of Ethics

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition comes out tomorrow. Now this always raises a few moral and ethical questions that everyone kinda feels but never talks about. Well I do talk about these things and I think about them a great deal. That is some of the questions of ethics that come up in our daily lives that people just accept because "That's just the way things are." Well if we go through life just accepting that as our reality, we can never truly experience things, just scratch the surface.
Now back to what I was saying about the SI SE (Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition). Some people feel that this magazine is wildly inappropriate. I would like to disagree. I truly do believe that as far as the content of at least this particular magazine, there is nothing questionable about it. It is merely a magazine if women wearing in most cases, bikinis. Sometimes being completely naked and painted, but the way in which it is done I do not feel is questionable. Some people argue about the fact that those women are someone's daughter and they are objectifying themselves as sex objects. I disagree in this particular instance. Everything is done in good taste.

One thing I am curious about though. What is the moral difference between placing a Cosmopolitan magazine in the front of stores, as opposed to a Playboy? Is there one? If so what is it? These are questions that someone decided an answer to long ago and ever since then we as people have just accepted that conclusion. I would argue that there is no moral difference. Now this opinion comes from having never read either one. But I feel as though I know enough about their content to still make a judgement on this.

We'll start with Playboy. What's the big deal? Oh no, breasts are so taboo these days. Yeah well, remember a few years ago when cousin fucking was so taboo? It's time for us as a people to grow up and live in the times in which we do. There is rarely if ever nudity on the cover of the magazine anyway, which is what everyone sees. Also contained within those pages are some of the finest interviews and intellectual prose as one could find in any publication that they look in. I understand that possibly the only thing the world today is scared of more than a vagina, or some boobs, is having a little knowledge. THE HORROR!!!

Onto Cosmopolitan. Now I must admit, there have been times while standing in line at a store I have flipped through the pages of this magazine, just to see what all the fuss is about. And frankly, I just don't get it. Whoever reads this must have a pretty hollow existence, but that is an argument for another day. Speaking strictly content wise, what makes awesomely bad sex tips printed in huge words on the front cover more socially acceptable? Is it just something I don't quite get? What does that contribute to society on a higher level? If anyone has an answer for this, please, I beg you, enlighten me.

For whatever reason, we as a people seem willing to just sit back and accept these things rather than think for a minute and really question them. Why? I'm not exactly sure. I wish I knew. People no longer question just this, but a whole number of things. People seem too ready to just accept how badly they may be getting fucked by a system. Time to wake up and start thinking about things and wondering why things are the way that they are.

Just some Stuff. Whatever.

Lots of things will happen in this world that cannot be predicted. But there are some things that definintely will never happen, and some that definitely will.

Stop Terrorism – The simple fact is that terrorism is part of life. As long as there are freaky people who want to tell other people how to live their lives, or people who want to take something from someone else, there will be terrorism – in one form or another. And I don’t see a shortage of freaks any time soon. Dealing with terrorists is like taking out the trash. It don’t matter how much trash you took out yesterday, tomorrow there will be more trash to take out.

Contact Intelligent Life outside our solar System – Never mind the fact that the jury is still out on whether or not there is intelligent life on earth, I really have a hard time believing that we will find it elsewhere, let alone contact them. I do believe that intelligent life it is out there. The odds are really good for that. I just think that we won’t ever find it. The universe is so ridiculously large – and we are so minutely small that I think the odds are simply too great to overcome. We must also consider that ‘timing’ is critical. The earth is 5 billion years old and our ability (technologically) to even detect E.T. is only 60 years old. An alien life form could have called us just 62 years ago and we would not have even heard the phone ring. For all we know, that light the 3 wise men followed, could have been E.T. saying hello. Too bad we didn’t have an answering machine to pick up and say, “I’m sorry, we can’t come to the phone right now, our savior is being born and we too ignorant to know that you have called. Please call back in about 2000 years.”

Survive our own technology – My final prediction is that we probably won’t survive our own technology. I know, what a downer. But the simple fact is that we have invented far more ways to destroy ourselves then we have invented to save ourselves. Whether by a man made plague; nuclear war; trying to manipulate our environment; genetic un-gineering; becoming dependant on our technology, or having our own robots take over the earth – I believe that mankind’s technology has far outpaced his wisdom. As a species, mankind harbors too much evil. In fact, we are the only species that that acts with evil & malice. We are the only species that kills for pleasure. While other animals may defend territory or resources, only mankind ‘conspires’ to assure that others are forbidden to acquire their own resources. Do think that Dinosours would have lived for 100 million years if they had our attitude? Neither do I.

Here are some things that definitely will happen during your first year of college:

You will wake up on a communal bathroom floor.
You will walk in on your new roommate masturbating.
You will drop all of your 9 A.M. classes.
You will figure out which liquor store won't card you.
You will have absolutely nothing in common with anyone you meet.
You will spend over $230 at the bookstore on shit you absolutely will not need ever.
You will throw up everything you just bought at Target.
You will destroy everything someone owns by hurling it off a roof.

There are seven types of people that are cockblockers:

The gay friend.
The plutonic male friend.
The man hating friend.
The girls night out group.
Your Drunk friend.
Your Drunk self.
A baby.

I'm somewhat out of things to say. So I'll probably just stop now before I risk getting too ranty. . .

How Your First Relationship Ruined You

Admittedly I've never been in one. I don't care. This is an intriguing article out there for all of you who may have had the "joy." If you feel you are still in your first relationship, here's what awaits you. I don't care what any of you think, I did not write this study. No one fucking reads this stupid thing anyway.

Here is a brief summary:

Your early years, are a mix of formative experiences slowly simmering the stew that is you into the delicious concoction that goes so well with the beer you are today. But few experiences can have the emotional and mental impact on a person that the first loving relationship has. When I say loving, I mean the first person you truly fell in love with, not that bitch you dated for a month and didn't really like at all the whole time. It doesn't matter who you are, or even less they are, this first relationship has formed a basis for the interaction you have with every other member of the opposite sex except for maybe, your parents.

Depending on how things went, they could have fostered in you a healthy respect for the other sex, and a propensity towards fulfilling genuine loving relationships for the rest of your life. Or if they were a total and utter soul-less beast from the nether world you probably have some issues with the other sex and at most, openly despise dating.

Laura Carpenter, a sociologist at Vanderbilt, says of first relationships, "It's the only time you're ever in love with someone where you have never had you're heart broken. You can have better relationships after that, but there is never again one where you have never been hurt."

These powerful first relationships, inform you how to act towards your future significant others. But this phenomenon is so powerful and common that it even has its own name. It's called transference, and odds are, you've experienced it. When you see a trait, action, situation, or cue that reminds you of an ex, chances are good that it's that first one. You then project those experiences onto whomever you are with currently.

Whenever your significant other starts a sentence with, "Well when i was dating......" your comparing them to on some level another one of your romances. And odds are its the most powerful and impressing one, your first.

I don't mean to make it sound all bad, because it doesn't have to be. If your first relationship was a good one, the feelings you project on future romances will also be good.

The more interesting question lies in this. How do I get over this first love of mine, especially if things ended amicably. Here are some tips from Psychology Today:

Make a Choice:
This sounds far easier than it is for a lot of people. Many would argue that one cannot make a choice to get over it. That may be true for many people, so an exercise is to literally get right down to pros and cons of being with that person. It seems ridiculous, and it is. But by doing so you'll realize how ridiculous it are that you may still be hung up on this person. Relationships never end for no reason.

Contain your Rumination:
Set aside a period each day, say 5-10 minutes, in which your only concern is the ruminate over and think about how much you may miss them. It won't take long to get over this ten minutes of mopiness and it won't take long for your brain to always feel this way. It also won't take long before any heartache or lingering feelings are expunged.

Live in the Present:
Get your head out of the past by putting it someplace in the present. Good ways to do this are to join a gym, take an awesome class, or just date your face off. It's almost definitely a bumper sticker somewhere, but its true. The best way to get over somebody, is to get under somebody else.

You may be asking yourself, why did I post this? I've never even dated anyone. What room do I have to talk about relationships. None. I also couldn't give less of a fuck about that. I see something interesting and damn well am I gonna talk about it. So if you have a problem with this, I don't care. I neither wrote it nor stand behind it. I just found it to be of intrigue as to what effect one person can have on the rest of your life.

Life Lessons

If there is anything that I have learned thus far in life. It's that no man can be an island. Fortunately or unfortunately for me I have always tried to be one. Life is a lot easier with at least a few good friends, or in this case one best friend. Yes, I do have one of those. Her name is Abbie Bellafatto. Through thick and thin she has always been there for me. Why she is even my friend, let alone my best friend, remains a mystery to me each and every single day. Though nothing on earth makes me any happier then that. I do not get to see her near as often as I would like to, but that is just an unfortunate reality one must accept sometimes. If anyone deserves a thank you for being my friend its her, someone who I sincerely hope, I'll never lose.
Another reality one must face, is that there are times in life when you may just be in a bad mood. You're not really sure why, but for whatever reason, you'd love to know so you can get past it. Right now is one of those times for me. Somethin just isn't right, and i have no idea what it could be.

While for the most part this short blurb has been about absolutely nothing in particular, I guess I'll leave on that note. Good thing no one actually reads this.

Story Time!!

One day you find yourself getting involved with a woman. Things are going great. No matter what she says that she doesn't love her ex Brian anymore. You continue to probe her about this on a relatively frequent basis. Her argument is not helped by the fact that she has a picture of her dancing with him at the Newburg Butter Festival from 2 years ago on her nightstand. Not one of the thousands she has taken of the two of you. One day you decide as a favor you will just put the old picture of her and Brian in her drawer that way neither of you will have to look at it anymore. This of course leads to a huge fight. At some point in the fight you say "But baby I was just doing this as a favor, I love you." Admittedly this was not the best point in your relationship to say this for the first time, true though it may be. She winds up dumping your sorry ass and for 6 months you cry at the very thought of her name. A few weeks after you break up you run into her at the mall with Brian. Realizing you have now pushed them back together and ruined your life you kill yourself like a man and headbutt a sidewalk until you die.

Some Jokes by Comics you Should Know

I bought a seven-dollar pen because I always lose pens and I got sick of not caring.
- Mitch Hedburg

hope the next time I move I get a real easy phone number, something that's real easy to remember. Something like two two two two two two two two. I would say "Sweet." And then people would say, "Mitch, how do I get a hold of you?" I'd say, "Just press two for a while. And when I answer, you will know you have pressed two enough."
-Mitch Hedburg

I think Pringles original intention was to make tennis balls... but on the day the rubber was supposed to show up a truckload of potatoes came. Pringles is a laid-back company, so they just said, "Fuck it, cut em up!"

So I say live and let live. That's my motto. Live and let live. Anyone who can't go along with that, take him outside and shoot the motherfucker. It's a simple philosophy, but it's always worked in our family.

Nothin Quite Like Making Music with Friends

A few days ago I got the chance to do something which I hadn't been afforded the opportunity to do in quite some time. Play drums with Jake and Swisher. God damn did I ever miss that. For whatever reason playing with Jake is always so much fun. It's almost like magic every time we play together. All it takes is a look from one of us, any look, and we both just know exactly what the other one is gonna do. There is really nothing in the world like it. It's something that can't be competently described only felt.

In other news, its that time of year where everyone heads back off to college again. And let me tell you does that ever suck. I still have some good friends around here no doubt but it just isn't the same. I will see them all again though. Not soon enough. But for now thats how it is, so ok. The German philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein gave this definition of reality: “The world is all that is the case.” Typical of philosophical aphorisms, it is a deep little statement, but it certainly includes the idea that “It is what it is.” I guess idealists (“It’s not what it ought to be”), paranoids (“It’s not what it seems”), cynics (“It is, but not very”), reactionaries (“It’s not what Iwant it to be”), self-deluders (“It’s not my is”), and rationalizers (“It’s not my fault”), would have trouble with that concept.

Having just recently returned from Nashville I know that I can say at least one thing with authority. If you are thinking of driving somewhere much further away than there, DON'T. By the time you get there you will be hallucinating and your legs will be gone.

It was so unbelievably cold while we were there it made me re think how I feel about cold weather. I figured in the days leading up to it that hey, its the South therefore it doesn't get cold. Oh how wrong I was about that. There were a few days where it was warmer here in Easton than it was down there. Everyone down there said they couldn't remember any time while they had lived there where it was so cold for more than a day or two. It even snowed while we were there. Granted it was not alot of snow the schools were still closed for three days. The day before it snowed, the day it did, and the day after it snowed.

Other than that it was a pretty awesome trip. The night we got there we didn't have much to do as the person whose place we were staying at was at a hockey game. Ten rows off the ice for free. Absolutely don't blame him for that one. Anyway we walked around a little bit and saw a small bit of the city.

The next day we went and saw what we actually made the trek for. Third Man Records. Jack White's label. Now to get to third man records, you basically walk out of the city into the projects and between two run down houses and some trees is a black building. That's it. It's a very Jack White location. Why bother with nice things? To get into the building even though it was open the doors were locked. We had to ring some sort of doorbell and some nice lady came on and asked why we were there. Jake had no idea what to say and managed to get out we just wanted to see the store. Then the door opened. Once we got inside I was near certain Jake was gonna pass out. Much to my surprise he didn't. Managed to get lots of nice things related to everything John Anthony Gillis does. Pretty sure he bought everything in the store, where as I managed to walk away with only two shirts and a few stickers.

When we asked the ladies there if anyone comes there they said it depends on the day. I am 100% positive that is a lie. But that's ok. We got there and it was like heaven with a side of gold. The ladies there really didn't know anything about the White Stripes or anything. Which was kinda a shame since they have definitely met Jack White and I would pay to work at that store. Jake especially knows more about Jack White than he knows about himself. Guess there is always murder.

After that we just walked around in the tundra for a few hours to go see the Wooten brothers. Unfortunately the show looked 21+ so we couldnt get in. The next day we went and saw some other stuff like the Gibson store and some auto museum. Both were pretty sweet. Then the next day we came home which again took a cruel amount of time.

All in all it was a very good trip seeing as our only real motivation to go down was to see Third Man Records. It was cold but thats ok, separates the men from the boys.

A Collection of Some of my Favorite Quotes

I'm not looking back, but i want to look around me now.

The world weighs on my shoulders
But what am I to do?
You sometimes drive me crazy
But I worry about you
I know it makes no difference
To what you’re going through
But I see the tip of the iceberg
And I worry about you...

"No one gets to their heaven without a fight."

"Genius is the fire that lights itself."

If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music... I do know that I get most joy in life out of my violin.

Falling in love is not at all the most stupid thing that people do — but gravitation cannot be held responsible for it.

The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible.
